It’s no secret – aside from flu shots, the best you can do to prevent getting the flu is to boost your immune system. The immune system and flu are closely linked, and when your immune system is strong, the less susceptible you are to catching the cold or flu virus.

Your immune system works hard all day and night long, warding off germs, bacteria and viruses that may harm your body. Although you might not feel it working, you can see its effects when your immune system does fail to keep up, or when you see the side-effects of its effectiveness.

For example, when you get a cut, all sorts of bacteria and germs may enter your body through the opening. Your immune system works by fighting off these foreign invaders while the skin heals itself and closes up the wound. When this happens, you might notice the presence of pus in the wound. This side-effect is a sign that your immune system is working effectively.

You encounter a lot of bacteria and viruses every single day in the air you breathe, the ground you tread on, the food and beverage you drink, and the surfaces you touch. If you have a weak immune system, it will be easier for these viruses and bacteria to invade your body and bring about illnesses and diseases, such as the flu.

The immune system and flu are definitely closely related and if you want to avoid getting the flu, boosting your immune system will do you a lot of good.

Getting adequate sleep, drinking lots of water, exercising, eating raw fruits and vegetables that are rich in vitamin C and other nutrients, and taking vitamin supplements all contribute to a stronger immune system. You may also want to cut back on soda and coffee, which are related to a poor immune system. Adding lemon juice into your diet also helps maintain a healthy internal climate which is favored by good bacteria.

These are some things you need to know about the immune system and flu. Having a strong immune system will prevent the flu virus from attacking your body, so take steps to boost your immune system.
