Catching the colds and flu virus is a nasty ordeal. Fever, runny nose, headaches, muscle pains, and sore throat are just some of the symptoms you go through when you have the flu. To avoid going through all these, which could disrupt your everyday routine, you can take steps in preventing colds and flu.

Fortunately, preventing colds and flu is easy. A simple combination of proper hygiene and immune system boosting techniques gives you the defense you need against colds and flu.

Proper Hygiene

One of the ways to prevent colds and flu is proper hygiene. Viruses are passed on from one person to another directly, and not through the air. That is why frequent hand washing is very important. If someone who has the flu sneezes into his hands and touches an object, the next person who touches the same object may get the flu virus on his hands. Washing hands will help get rid of the virus. When washing, it is important to do it thoroughly, paying close attention to your fingers and under your fingernails.

However, proper hygiene does not stop there. Once the virus is in your hands, it can get to your body through your eyes, nose, and mouth. It is advised that you avoid touching your face. Washing your face will also help remove the virus.

Immunity Boosting Techniques

A strong immune system will make you less susceptible to a viral infection like the colds and flu. Eating fresh fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin C and drinking lots of water will contribute to strengthening your immune system. If you can’t incorporate such foods into your diet easily, you can take whole food supplements which contain the nutrients needed to boost your immune system.

Reducing stress and getting enough sleep is another way to boost your immunity and prevent colds and flu.

These are some easy ways in preventing colds and flu. All it takes is to practice proper hygiene and to strengthen your immune system. All these may mean extra effort on your part but as the adage goes, ‘prevention is better than cure.’
